North Park to finally begin construction on groundbreaking urban park

North Park's new mini park

The City of San Diego has announced they are finally moving forward with the construction of a half-acre urban park in the heart of North Park, as reported by the San Diego Union Tribune.

The park, which will be located on the current parking lot of the Observatory North Park, will reportedly be used to house food trucks, an outdoor music performance stage, a movie screening area, and a children’s playground. A large ‘North Park’ monument will also be erected in front of the development.

Designed with the mission of reflecting the neighborhood's "eclectic vibe," the site will feature various creative accessories such as art installations, a large pylon used to guide visitors, and decorative archways.

The project was approved in 2012 but was initially put on hiatus while the city secured funding for the development. It will be the first of its kind in Central San Diego outside of Downtown.
