Quartyard hosts block party to raise funds for 6k foot mural on Alpha Project building
Quartyard, the East Village container park and outdoor bar, announced that they are hosting a block party to raise funds for a large-scale mural on neighboring Alpha Project building.
The Alpha Project apartment building, utilized by the non-profit organization to provide affordable housing for the homeless, will serve as the canvas for a 6,000 square foot mural painted by legendary Los Angeles graffiti artist RISK. All proceeds from the event will be used to fund the project.
The project will coincide with the venue's four year anniversary and will feature two stages of music, six local beer sponsors, and additional art installations by Visual shop.
Live bands will include The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble, The Heavy Guilt, and the Stoney B Blues Band, and a special silent disco stage presented by BPM Supreme that will feature 6 local DJ crews, including yours truly.
Tickets are now on-sale with a 50% discount for all neighboring residents. You can purchase your pass here.
Quartyard was opened by architecture firm, RAD LAB, in 2014. Built on a vacant East Village lot that had been gathering trash and waste for years, the firm adopted the space as a challenge to transform the once-empty land into a thriving urban park, filled with music, events, retail, restaurants, art, and community-based activations. The project employs recycled and retrofitted shipping containers that act as the core building blocks of the project.
